A three-year-old boy from Pennsylvania, US is said to be in a critical condition this weekend, following a 10-foot fall from a wooden rollercoaster at a theme park.

Declan McClain was riding on the ‘Rollo Coaster’ at Idlewild Park & SoakZone with his seven-year-old brother, when he was thrown from his seat.

The rollercoaster in question does not have seatbelts, and park staff have been unable to confirm whether or not the ride malfunctioned.

The child is said to have hit his head before falling onto tracks below. Although he is reported to have been ‘alert and conscious’ just after the incident occurred, the latest updates reveal that he is in a critical condition in hospital.

The ride has been closed off pending an investigation into the accident.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Department of Agriculture has confirmed that the ‘Rollo Coaster’ passed its safety inspection earlier this month.

When news of the accident hit the headlines, a mother who had been at the theme park on the same day as Declan revealed that she had had to physically hold her kids – aged three and five – down during their ride on the rollercoaster.

Our thoughts are with Declan’s family at this time, and we are wishing him a speedy recovery.
