What is common is for fleas that drop off your pet to find their way to your child's cot, clothing or play area. Fleas cannot live and breed on your child's body but they can get trapped in hair and clothing and the bites will cause itchiness, pain and discomfort.
Because your child spends so much time in close proximity to the ground, there is the possibility that they can swallow a flea inadvertently. Fleas can carry parasites, such as ringworm and tape worm, which are quite dangerous to your child's health.
Keep your pet clean and use either a dip or flea collar. Vacuum your house often and either spray the inside of the vacuum cleaner with flea poison or use a flea collar on the vacuum bag. Lavender essence mixed with water can also help keep fleas at bay. Remember to repeat flea treatments after three weeks since that is when the new eggs and cocoons are ready to hatch.
