Nowadays, many of us mums try our best to get our kids off computer games and outside, making this story incredibly shocking and heartbreaking.

Social services have reportedly removed a child from their family home in Walsall after they deemed their parents’ obsession with video games amounted to “neglect”, according to The Sun.

"The computer gaming must have been extreme use. I expect the parents were spending hours in front of a screen,” said Claude Knights, chief of Kidscape, a charity that promotes anti-bullying and safeguarding issues across the UK.

“If a child is being neglected or unsafe, then the authorities should step in, but it is a fine balance," Claude added.

However, Walsall Council have stated that gaming was not the main factor for its invention, and  John Hemming, from Justice for Families, said: “Silly reasons are often given for taking children.”

No matter what the reason, we hope the child in question is being cared for in a happy and safe environment.

MummyPages recently reported on a new study that suggested playing violent games is linked to aggressive behaviour, making these tips to get your kids off the computer particularly helpful.
