It has been a sad week for news, with the horrific plane crash in Taiwan yesterday, and yet another shocking story has hit the headlines in the past few hours.

A Japanese child star is reportedly in a coma after performing a stunt with a helium balloon on a TV show.

The unnamed 12-year-old is part of a 25-piece group called 3B Junior, who frequently perform on a Japanese variety show.

According to reports, the 12-year-old was inhaling helium from a canister as part of a game that involved manipulating her voice, when she fell unconscious.

The girl was rushed to a nearby Tokyo hospital, where she is reportedly being treated for a brain embolism.

A spokesperson for TV Asahi commented earlier today: “There are signs of recovery, but she is still not fully fit.”

Sources have revealed that the canister from which the little girl inhaled the gas was marked for adult use only, and local media are reporting that authorities are now launching an investigation into the incident, on grounds of professional negligence resulting in injury.

TV Asahi has also revealed that it is set to launch an internal investigation into the shocking incident.

Our thoughts are with this little girl and her family, and we hope she makes a very speedy recovery.
