It is a long-running case that has captured the interest of the Irish all over the world, and this evening, a judge in the US has ruled on the fate of Irish nanny Aisling Brady McCarthy.

According to The Boston Globe this evening, the US state medical examiner has overturned a previous ruling that stated baby Rehma Sabir’s cause of death as a homicide.

More than two years after Brady McCarthy was charged with murder, the Cavan native has been released on bail.

The latest ruling comes after the Massachusetts medical examiner agreed to review all of the evidence in the case of the tot’s 2013 death, after two medical witnesses for the prosecution changed their views on the cause of death.

Reports claim that the witnesses changed their minds about fractures on the child’s body, that they initially believed occurred on the same day as the head injuries that caused Rehma’s death. They now believe that these fractures date back to an earlier period, when Brady McCarthy was not minding the child.

A hearing is set to take place on Wednesday in which the new findings are expected to derail the prosecution’s case.

We will keep you updated on the case.
