People all over the world were left shocked last week, when it emerged that a baby had been put up ‘for sale’ on the buy-and-sell website eBay.

Now, it has emerged that German police have interviewed the child’s parents – and their side of the story is equally as shocking.

According to reports, police – who were alerted to the advert by eBay’s admin – identified the child’s parents, then raided their home as part of a human trafficking investigation.

When questioned about the advert, ‘selling’ a 40-day-old baby named Maria, the child’s father admitted responsibility – and claimed it was all a ‘joke’.

The child’s family have been described as refugees.

It has been reported that the child – who was living with her family in an apartment in Duisberg, West Germany – has been placed in the care of social services.

Authorities were alerted last week, after eBay received numerous complaints from visitors to the site.

The advert, which was swiftly taken down by admin, featured photos of the child. The description read: “Child, 40 days old named Maria…for sale.”

An asking price of just over €5.5K was included.

We are relieved to hear that police got to the bottom of this shocking story, and we hope this child will receive all the care and support she needs.
