While many of us remained indoors, tucked up on the couch with our chocolate eggs on Easter Sunday, spare a thought for the nine-year-old twins who ended up having to be rescued after embracing the great outdoors.

The little boy and girl had to be rescued by emergency services in Charlottetown, Canada, after the giant piece of floating ice that they were playing on broke away from the river’s edge and drifted miles offshore.

Luckily for the twins, two friends they had been playing with managed to get off of the ice, swim to shore, and raise the alarm.

Explaining the incident to local media, an investigating policeman said: “They happened to jump on a piece of ice that actually was floating rather than sitting on the mud. And as they jumped on it, it started to float away from shore. It kept drifting out a little further and further.”

Shortly after arriving on the scene, emergency services rescued the twins and brought them back to shore. According to reports, neither child was harmed during the incident.

Given just how much tragedy had gone before that week, we are so relieved to hear that this accident had a positive ending.

SHARE if you are as relieved as we are to hear that these kids are alright.
