We all forget and lose things when we are stressed or in a hurry: mobile phones, car keys, wallets – the list just goes on and on. One would hope, however, that this story is an isolated occurrence.

A French family is currently being investigated by authorities for ‘forgetting’ their three-year-old at a rest-stop, only making the shocking discovery after hearing a police announcement over the radio.

According to reports, the family was on a road trip to the French Riviera when the incident occurred. After pulling over to the rest stop, the family drove off in their car minus one passenger – their three-year-old toddler.

Fellow travellers discovered the little girl and waited with her for her family to return. Shortly after, when there was no sign of the child’s parents, the strangers decided to call the police and report the incident.

Agence France-Presse reports that the family had driven 93 miles without realising that the little girl was not with them. Even more shockingly, it wasn’t until the family turned on their radio and heard a police announcement about the incident that they discovered their gaffe.

It took the family two hours to make it back to the rest stop, where police were waiting to reunite the child with her parents. Police, however, are reportedly suspicious over the family’s intentions and are now investigating whether or not the case needs to be “taken further”.
