The family of Jack O'Driscoll, the Cork teen paralysed after a fall in Mayfield during Storm Emma, has found themselves overwhelmed by the generosity of the public on GoFundMe.

Jack was out in the snow before the red weather alert on March 1, when he fell awkwardly and fractured his C5 vertebrae on his neck, according to the GoFundMe page.

He is now paralysed from the chest down and is currently in the High Dependency Unit of the Mater Hospital.

The 19-year-old has been facing the situation with a positive attitude, and his family is hoping he can soon begin rehabilitation. The GoFundMe page was started on his behalf to raise €200,000 in order to pay for his care costs.

After being up for just two days, the page has already garnered more than €45,000 in donations from 1,329 people.

One of the those who helped set up the page spoke to the IrishExaminer.com, telling them that the family are 'blown away' by the generosity and goodwill of others.

They also noted that Jack is a 'sports fanatic', and the support he's received reflects his dedicated involvement in his local soccer, hurling, and Gaelic football clubs.

The person also said that the fund aims to ensure that the 19-year-old can be 'as ambitious as possible' when it comes to his rehabilitation.

We wish Jack all the best during his recovery process. If you are interested in donating to his GoFundMe, it can be found here.
