A four-year-old girl has been praised by emergency services for her quick thinking and calm approach during a recent medical emergency in her home.

Megan Stratton found herself in a very frightening situation when her mum Charlotte suffered a seizure while the pair were alone in their home.

With his wife having complained of feeling unwell, Trevor Stratton left the family home in order to collect medication for Megan's mum, but things took a turn for the worse following his departure.

Charlotte, who has a history of seizures, suddenly collapsed, but having taught her daughter what to do if she finds herself presented with the situation, Megan quickly sprung into action.

Contacting emergency services, the little girl calmly explained the situation, followed the operator's advice and allowed paramedics entry into the family home.

Commenting on Megan's incredibly mature approach to what must have a very frightening incident, Alan Austin, a Suffolk Police call handler said: "It is not often that you get a four-year-old who you can talk to so easily – it made life a lot easier."

Truly impressed by the child's handling of the situation, temporary chief constable Gareth Wilson said: "Megan’s call to the police was truly exceptional to listen to. It is very rare to hear a child handle a call in such a calm manner."

Megan's parents are understandably brimming with pride over their daughter's quick thinking, with her ever grateful mum saying: "It’s nice to know I can feel safe with Megan around when we’re at home. I’m so, so proud of her.”

It seems Megan's practical and thoughtful nature will go to good use in the future with the little girl revealing she wants to be a nurse, saying: "I like helping people to get better."

Well done Megan!
