Just last weekend, it was reported that a number of pregnant women were forced to sleep rough in Dublin City recently due to having nowhere else to go, and another damning report has been made today.

The leader of an Irish homeless charity has called for immediate action, after a family with three young children were found preparing to bed down in a city park last night.

Anthony Flynn of Inner City Helping Homeless (ICHH) made the concerning revelation to the Irish Independent today, confirming that the family is made up of a couple in their thirties and three kids under six.

While the ICHH were able to provide the family with accommodation last night, Mr Flynn said that the organisation was working to help them in every way possible going forward.

“They shouldn’t have been in the position where they had to bed down in Mountjoy Square last night. We and other groups have been working for the morning trying to have the family placed in emergency accommodation,” he said.

Now, Mike Allen of Focus Ireland has called on Taoiseach Enda Kenny to live up to his promises.

“The Taoiseach said on Sunday that families having to stay in hotel rooms is unacceptable…The very idea that a number of children have had to sleep rough in our capital city is a disgrace and a failure by the Government,” he told the Irish Independent.

Let's hope some firm and decisive action will finally be taken to solve this issue.
