Photos have been steadily emerging of the devastation caused by the earthquake in Nepal, and one in particular has touched the hearts of people all over the world.

With more than 5,000 people killed after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake, hope came in the form of an astonishing picture of a four-month-old baby boy being rescued alive from the rubble.

According to reports, the child had been buried for 22 hours, in the rubble of a destroyed building in Bhaktapur.

While rescuers had missed the child during their initial searches of the area, his faint cries alerted passing soldiers to his precise spot.

A photographer managed to capture the moment that the solider rescued the baby from the rubble, with the moving photo quickly going viral around the world.

The baby, who is seen covered in dust and dirt, is said to be in a stable condition in hospital and free from serious external or internal injuries. Sadly, the child’s parents have not yet been located.

This powerful image, published on Kathmandutoday.com, comes just a day after authorities expressed their concern for up to 50,000 pregnant women who could be majorly affected by the disruption to vital maternity care.

Our thoughts remain with all those who are affected by this awful tragedy.
