You can baby-proof your home to the last, but if the basics aren’t up to standard, you could be facing into a very serious situation. Unfortunately, this is something that Ohio mum Kasey Bollinger found out this week.

Kasey is demanding answers and action after her two-year-old son, Parker Rinehart, was left with second- and third-degree burns from boiling hot water in their own toilet.

According to reports, Parker was playing with his three-year-old brother when the incident occurred, with the elder child pushing the younger into the toilet. Unbeknownst to the tots, the toilet contained scalding hot water, due to a plumbing fault.

While Ms Bollinger was out of the house at the time, the children were being watched by her boyfriend, Matt Henderson.

Ms Bollinger told authorities that she had asked her landlord on several occasions to fix the toilet, which is actually connected to the hot-water heater.

Speaking to local media, she said: “It could have been stopped from the get-go. This shouldn’t have happened. Every time I look at him, it just makes me want to cry all over again. Parker is my baby.”

The local health department has since ordered the landlord to fix the plumbing fault immediately, while Child Services are investigating the shocking incident.
