Police in the United States have launched an investigation after the discovery of needle-like objects were found in chocolate bars which had been handed out to eager trick or treaters over the weekend.

According to authorities in Pennsylvania, five children in the Philadelphia suburb of Kennett Square reported finding the dangerous objects wrapped inside their Halloween treats.

Commenting on the shocking discovery, Kennett Square Police Department issued a statement, saying: "On 1 November, the Kennett Square Police Department received reports of Halloween candy that had been tampered with."
 


Elaborating on the details of the frightening events, they continued: "Reportedly a needle type item was found inside five wrapped Twix bars given to four different children the evening of 31 October, 2015, in the Stenning Hills area of the borough."

Meanwhile in central Minnesota officers launched a similar investigation after a woman reported finding a needle in her child's sweets while police in Ohio responded to claims that a disposable razor blade had been found in a Snickers bar.

Thankfully, none of the children who discovered the objects were harmed by the unwanted surprises.
