It is probably a good idea to have your hospital bag packed a few weeks before your due date, you never know when you will go into labour. Here are a few necessities that you need to pop in there but don’t forget to add in a few items for your own comfort; depending on how long you are going to be in the hospital for, you might need them.

Flip flops or crocs
You may need to take a shower during your labour so pop a pair of flip flops in your bag. They will also come in handy when you are showering after the birth.

Slippers
To save space in your bag, you could probably just use your flip flops as slippers but they’re not as comfy. Make sure they have grip on the bottom so that you don’t slip and avoid backless ones.

Pyjamas
Make sure you pack a clean, fresh night dress in there if you know you will be staying the night. Pyjamas are optional but you are likely to be sore pulling them up so just stick with a nightdress.

Dressing gown
A dressing gown is bulky but will be a saviour when you are going to the shower or for when visitors arrive.

Underwear
Pop a maternity bra into your bag and pack lots of comfy knickers. You will need them.

Maxi pads
You will need these to deal with the post birth bleeding.

Nappies
The hospital may supply these for you but they may not so make sure you pack a few newborn nappies.

Baby clothes
You will need to dress your baby so pop some clothes in and don’t forget vests.

Toiletries
Don’t forget your toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, bobbins, hand sanitizer and other toiletries you may need.

Books/magazines
While you may not take them out of the bag it will be good to know they are there.

Make-up
This is probably the last thing on your mind right now but when visitors start arriving, you will be grateful for a little lippie.

Clothes to wear home
Easily forgotten but essential.
