One glance at the photos below, and your memory and heart will be tugged into action as you remember the story of little Abigail Jones.

The tot made headlines around the world last month, when parents Erika and Stephen shared what was, at the time, such a heartbreaking tale.

Little Abigail was diagnosed first with Down syndrome, and then with an ‘inoperable’ brain tumour while she was still in the womb.

After the gorgeous tot’s birth, doctors told Erika and Stephen to take her home and “cover her in love”, and they did just that. They went on to share their story and a series of touching photos with the world.

It’s not often that we have the chance to return to these stories with a happy report, but we are delighted to say that we can do this today.

Speaking to ABC News this week, the family’s doctor shared a wonderful update: after taking a second look, they discovered that Abigail’s tumour was, in fact, benign, and surgeons were able to successfully remove it, recently.

“We repeated an MRI, which again made me suspicious that the tumour was not, in fact, malignant. We operated on Abigail through a left frontoparietal craniotomy and removed it,” explained Dr Alan R. Cohen.

In a statement that is bound to lift hearts all over the world, he added: “Her prognosis is excellent. This is a story with a very sad beginning and a very happy ending.”
