There are some people whose bravery knows no bounds, and Canadian mum Jessica Dicks is one such woman.

The 27-year-old has come in for major praise this week, after sharing the story of how she ended up paralysed in an accident while trying to save her young children.

According to the Washington Post, Jessica was camping with her three young daughters and niece, in Canada, when the incident occurred.

Jessica recalled hearing a loud ‘crack’, then watching a 25-foot piece of tree fall and hurtle towards the tent below containing the little girls.

The devoted mother is said to have run over to the tent, screamed at the girls to run away and been struck by the tree in the process.

While Jessica can’t remember a whole lot from the incident, it is thought that the piece of tree hit her head and pinned her legs to the ground.

In hitting her body, the piece of tree was diverted from its path towards the girls, and they were saved.

Jessica was left severely injured by the accident, suffering spinal fractures which have left her paralysed from the breasts down. She also endured broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a crushed sternum, cuts to her head, and broken teeth.

The Alberta mum was placed in an induced coma and, when she finally awoke weeks later, her first words were: “I saved my babies.”

An investigation into the accident is now underway, while loved ones have set up a crowdfunding page (link here) to raise money for Jessica’s treatment fees.

After finding out that she will likely never walk again, brave Jessica told the Post: “It was very hard and very bizarre to comprehend at first because I don’t remember any of it. Now it’s sunk in that this is my reality.”

What an incredibly heroic woman.
