Her powerful letter about the struggles of raising a family in Ireland went viral, and now Cork-based mum Donna Hartnett has revealed the extent of her frustration with the state of living in Ireland.

Donna, who is a mother-of-two, opened up on her motivation behind writing the letter to the Irish Independent.

Speaking to TV3, she explained: “I felt so frustrated, I felt like I didn’t have a choice in my own life.

She added: “I am a person who wants to work, I do want to pay my taxes, I want to be a good citizen, but I think the system as it stands makes that completely impossible.”

Donna’s letter received an overwhelming response from the public, with messages of support and solidarity flooding social media after a screenshot of the letter went viral.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny also formally addressed the letter in the Dáil, saying that while he admired Donna for her actions, he believed that the latest Budget would help families.
