It has been just over a year since Lane Graves died in a tragic accident at Disney World Florida, after being attacked by an alligator.

Now, in a moving dedication to the two-year-old, Disney World has unveiled a beautiful lighthouse monument in his memory.

Lane was visiting the theme park with his family last June when the tragedy occurred. The toddler was playing at the water’s edge when the creature dragged him into the lake.

Despite father Matt Graves’ best efforts to free his son, little Lane was taken. After a 16-hour search, Lane’s body was found; the cause of death was confirmed as drowning, while he had also suffered a traumatic neck injury.

Following the tragedy, the Graves family set up the Lane Thomas Foundation (Thomas was his middle name) in his honour.

Through the foundation – which uses a blue and gold lighthouse as its emblem – the Graves family help other grieving families through similar traumas.

In the latest update to the Lane Thomas Foundation’s official Facebook page, the Graves family shared a touching photo of Disney World’s beautiful dedication to their beloved son.

“In recognition of National Lighthouse Day, please see the lighthouse created to honour our loving boy Lane,” read the caption.

Accompanying the post is a photo of a gold and blue lighthouse statue, with two stars emblazoned across the front.

A representative for Disney World opened up about the gesture, in an interview with TODAY.

“The lighthouse sculpture has been installed to help spread awareness of the Lane Thomas Foundation, which was established to provide assistance and support to families whose children need organ transplants,” they said.

The unveiling of the monument has prompted an outpouring of love and well wishes on the Lane Thomas Foundation Facebook page.

“Never will I forget this young boy, and forever will I think of his parents and sister. Truly touched my heart,” wrote one follower.

Another added: “Beautiful tribute to a precious child gone too soon. My continued prayers for Lane and his family.”

Others praised Disney for the heart-warming gesture, with one writing: “Amazing tribute in honouring your precious little Lane. Your baby boy will never be forgotten while his memory keeps on giving life.”

This is a truly touching move, and we’re sure it will inspire others working through their own grief right now.
