We know how difficult it can be to find good healthy alternatives to home cooking for our babies. Mum and restauranteur, Irene Queally, felt the same way. When she had her children, all that seemed to be on offer with regards to baby food was over processed long shelf life options which seemed a mile away from anything she would make herself.
And so the idea of Pip & Pear was born.
Pip & Pear is a range of baby food that is the closest you can get to real homemade food (delicious taste, texture and appearance) with all the nutritional goodness, so you can have all of the goodness and none of the guilt.
From its small beginnings in Irene’s restaurant, No. 9 in Waterford City, the range went on to win the Baby Food category in the Blas na hEireann awards.
Each product is specifically formulated for babies' varying ages, from 5 months up to 10 months. All products contain at least two of babies' “5 a day” fruit and veg portions, apart from the Blas na hEireann award-winning Chicken Lickin Casserole which contains one of your child's 5 a day. All fruit and veg is organic. The products contain no added salt or sugar, are gluten & egg free, and contain Bord Bia approved lamb, beef and chicken and Bord Iascaigh Mhara approved fish.
Irene tailored the product range so that each product is specifically formulated for babies' varying ages.
Stage 1 – from 5 months
Flavours include:
  • Spiced Apple & Pear  - Gold winner, Blas na hEireann
  • Banana Blue – Silver winner, Blas na hEireann
  • Squashy Potato
These are perfect on their own or mixed into baby rice. Older babies and toddlers will love them as a dessert or mixed with yogurt. Combinations of flavours at this stage will help develop your babies’ pallet.
Stage 2 – from 7 months
  • Chicken Licken Casserole - Bronze winner, Blas na hEireann
  • Fishy Dishy
  • Lovely Lentil Stew
The mashed consistency of these recipes are just right for developing tastes and textures.
Stage 3 – from 10 months
  • Baby Beef Ragu
  • Tutti Fruity Chicken Curry
  • Easy Peasy Risotto
These recipes have a chunky consistency with some small lumps and chunks which help in chewing at this age. The texture in the food helps motor skill and language development.
With delicious and nutritious recipes like these, you can be safe in the knowledge that your babies are getting all of the nutritional goodness they need without losing out on taste.
The Pip & Pear range will be available in stores nationwide from May 26th.
