Two days after a worker at a recycling facility discovered the remains of an infant, gardaí have ruled out foul play from the circumstances of her death.

A post-mortem was carried out yesterday by State Pathologist Marie Cassidy, and while the outcome was ‘inconclusive’, gardaí confirmed that violence is not believed to have been a factor in the child’s death.

Issuing a statement yesterday, a representative of the Bray Gardaí also confirmed: “The findings of the post-mortem would suggest that the baby was born some weeks earlier than initially thought…It is confirmed that the baby is female and Caucasian.”

While the baby’s remains were reported to have been damaged, there is apparently nothing in the post-mortem findings to suggest that the injuries were deliberately carried out.

Gardaí are now liaising with representatives from the Health Service Executive with the rest of their investigation.

Bray gardaí also reiterated their appeal for the mother of the child to seek medical attention, and for the parents and distressed relatives to make contact with the authorities.

Anyone close to the family looking to get in touch with the authorities has been asked to contact Bray Garda Station on 01 6665300, or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
