You’ve made it! By now your morning sickness and fatigue should be subsiding and you should start to feel more like yourself again.  For that reason the second trimester is often called the ‘honeymoon period’.

But of course by virtue of the fact there’s a tiny human growing inside you, more changes are afoot for your body. Breasts become bigger to prepare for breastfeeding so you may need to go up a cup size, your gums may become tender or bleeding so you may need a softer toothbrush and your back may start to hurt so you may need to demand numerous massages!

And that’s not all – those naughty pregnancy hormones will make your skin more sensitive to the sun so slap on the sunblock, they make hair grow much thicker (and not just on your head) and they can make you congested leading to snoring. We didn’t say it would be easy but we are saying it will be worth it!

We advise that you monitor yourself closely during this period and if you have any worries make sure you chat to your doctor.

The second trimester is an exciting time too because you get to have your scan. Typically this happens at around 18 weeks. Not only does it allow your healthcare professional to learn about your baby’s health, but you get a much anticipated look at your baby and of course a keepsake picture to take home and show off to anyone that will listen, even the postman.
