Is it teething time for your little one?

When King Lion loses his voice he is unable to read the rest of the animals their bedtime story. Jumping to the rescue, Rhinoceros declares that he will read everyone the story, until he realises that he doesn’t know how.

He tries winding the book up with a key, diving into it in his swimming togs, getting stuck to it with honey and even painting it red but he still doesn’t know how to read it. And all the animals are starting to get worried that there won’t be a bedtime story now.

But after a little bit of help, Rhinoceros finally understand what he needs to do, and then lion gets his voice back.

Preposterous Rhinoceros by Tracy Gunaratnam is a funny, colourful, easy-to-read story that is sure to be a delight for all kids who are just learning to read on their own.

Here’s what our young reviewer thought of the book:

Abigail, 5, Dublin

"I loved it. I like the funny bits in it, especially where he painted the book red instead of 'reading it' and where he dived into the pool and didn't understand what they animals meant. The other animals thought he was able to read, all he needed to was learn how to read. The animals were so funny, when they told him to dive into the book, he got confused and thought the book was a swimming pool and dived into the book instead of reading it. I loved the pictures, my favourite picture was when he was painting the book red.
