Sharp pains in the pelvic area, in the groin, around your uterus or even in your abdomen, especially in the second trimester, are called ‘round ligament pain.’ They’re caused by the tendons and ligaments that surround and support your uterus stretching and thickening.
Since your uterus will swell from the size of an apple to the size of a watermelon during your pregnancy, it’s no surprise that these changes are accompanied by a little pain.
Usually, pain will last for a few moments, and if you change position, sit down for a moment with your feet up, and avoid sudden movements, you should find that they subside on their own.
Your doctor may be able to prescribe an over the counter painkiller to deal with the pain, but if you are experiencing any other symptoms, like bleeding or discharge, or if your pain lasts longer than a few minutes, you should refer to your doctor.
