Yesterday, we shared the sad story of how a terminally ill mum was preparing her daughter for her passing, and now the similar and incredibly touching story of another mother has made headlines around the world today.

When single mother Elizabeth Diamond found out last August that she had stage four brain cancer, her first thought was of her four daughters and what would happen to them after her passing.

Naturally, she decided to turn to those closest to her for help, and she asked best friend Laura Ruffino and her husband Rico to take care of her girls when she was gone.

Tragically, Elizabeth died three months ago aged 40, leaving behind daughters Lily, Ella, Samona and Tara.

With two children of their own, no one would blame the Ruffinos for being apprehensive about taking four young children into their own family – but that’s exactly what they did, and without hesitation.

Laura and Rico adopted Elizabeth’s girls, with their local community pitching in to help them out. As well gifting them with a bigger fridge, locals from their Buffalo community have set up a fundraising webpage encouraging others to support the family in any way possible.

Opening up on life with her family of six daughters, Laura told local media: “When I sit back and I think about it, it’s hard to think about because it’s still shocking to me. This is a really big thing, but to us, it’s just our life.”

As of this morning, the fundraising page (which can be viewed through this link) has raised over $40,000 for the Ruffino family.
