On Saturday morning, ten people including five children were killed when a blaze broke out at a halting site in south Dublin.

Many others who had been living in the Carrickmines site for the last six year were left homeless.

To help those who have nowhere to go, the St Vincent de Paul have set up a specific bank account, details of which will be on their website later today.

Thomas and Sylvia Connors and their three children, Jim, Christy and Mary perished in the fire along with William Lynch, his partner Tara Gilbert, who was pregnant at the time, and their children Jodie and Kelsey as well as William’s brother Jimmy.

Geraldine Dunne of Southside Travellers Action Group said that the county council and STAG are “looking at coming up with the best solution to provide accommodation that will meet the needs of the families in the coming days and months”.

Many books of condolence were opened around Dublin yesterday, and a further book will be opened by Dublin Mayor Críona Ní Dhálaigh at Dublin’s Mansion House this morning at 11am to allow Dubliners to express their sympathy.

Dunne also commended the support being seen from people around the country, saying: "The support from all around the country, there’s no word to describe it, it has been really, really good, from all the agencies, Southside Travellers, the community, the gardaí."
