When you have an emergency with your baby or young child, the kindness of strangers can mean everything, which is something that one loving community in the US proved recently.

When mum Kaylee Goemans rushed to Accident & Emergency with her six-week-old son Dominic, she parked her car with enough cash to see her through for a few hours.

Expecting to be in and out of the hospital in no time, as her son’s test results had already been sent over, Kaylee was surprised to find her ordeal lasting for nine hours.

Things are already tight in the Goemans household; while Kaylee lost her job 28 weeks into her pregnancy, she has not been able to find employment since – and hasn’t been able to qualify for paid pregnancy leave benefits.

Panicking over what was going to happen to her car – and more importantly, not wanting to leave her son alone – Kaylee took to social media for help.

After posting a message explaining her situation to a local mother’s group, Kaylee was inundated messages from kind-hearted fellow mums asking for her registration. Having received over a hundred comments, Kaylee’s parking was well and truly sorted as people stopped by the hospital to help out.

As well as paying for the worried mother’s parking, these wonderful strangers also offered up their help and support with anything else that the Goemans needed.

Baby Dominic was later diagnosed with intussusception, a disorder whereby part of the bowel slides into the next part, blocking foods and fluids from passing through.

At such a stressful time, Kaylee told Today that the support of strangers meant the world to her.

“My day was turned upside-down when I was told to go to the ER immediately…Knowing I had all these ladies there for me, to help me with parking, meals and even hugs made me able to focus just on my son and his needs,” she said.
