There have been warnings going out all week regarding the dangers of bonfires and fireworks this Halloween, and this latest tragedy really brings the gravity of these words home.

A fire in a night club in Bucharest, Romania has killed a reported 27 people and injured 184 others.

According to reports, the incident occurred at a nigh tclub rock concert that featured a fireworks display, late last night.

The concert was being held in the basement of an old sport-shoe factory, and eyewitnesses say that as soon as smoke was spotted, the estimated 400 attendees – most of whom were teenagers and young adults – all made for the one available exit.

One eye witness told local media that the ceiling of the club burst into flames “in five seconds”, and the entire crowd began to rush to the door in a stampede.

While the organisers said in a Facebook post that the show would feature pyrotechnics, witnesses say they saw fireworks in the club.

Commenting on the tragic news, Romania’s Deputy Interior Minister, Raed Arafat, said that authorities are still identifying some of the victims.

Following an emergency meeting early this morning, Minister Arafat told the media: “Unfortunately, the death toll may change taking into account the severity of their injuries.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by last night’s tragedy.
