It’s always an exciting time when you discover that a baby is on the way for you or a loved one, and the maternity shoot has become a popular part of the celebrations.

Whether you’re sharing your news with a tasteful and professional couple’s shot, or doing a gender reveal with a balloon release, it’s so nice to have these precious memories to keep forever.

This is how Twitter user Elsa felt when she discovered that her best friend, Fusee, was expecting. And so, Elsa decided to organise a beautiful maternity shoot for her, with flower crowns and an ornate ‘soon-to-be-mum’ sign.

There’s something a little unique about the shoot Elsa organised, however – Fusee is actually her pet dog, and was expecting puppies!

After capturing gorgeous photos of the mum-to-be celebrating in a garden full of flowers, receiving kisses and cuddles from her ‘best friend’, Elsa posted the results to Twitter.

“My best friend is eight weeks pregnant so we decided to do a maternity photo shoot,” tweeted Elsa, sharing the photos with people across social media.

As you can guess, the pictures went down a total storm online, with people branding the photo shoot ‘cute’ and ‘the most beautiful thing they have ever seen’!

Of course, the big question was, how is Fusee getting along with her pregnancy since these photos were first shared to Twitter? Well, thankfully, Elsa had a wonderful update for Fusee’s legion of new fans.

Earlier today, Elsa took to Twitter to reveal that the beautiful Fusee welcomed eight pups over the past 24 hours.

“Update: labour is completed. Eight puppies were made in the making,” she tweeted.

Congratulations to Fusee – it’s clear that she is the apple of her owner’s eye!

Dog maternity shoots are no novel phenomenon, of course. Last year, adorable dog Lilica became an internet sensation after pictures of her posing proudly with her puppies went viral online.

Lilica looked as proud as punch as she stood over her five pups, all chilling out in a fur-lined basket, for photographer Anna Paulo Grillo.

Our furry friends don’t need to be the ones expecting, to play an important role in our own journeys. Indeed, Lucy the Terrier became an internet star after adding her paw to owner Whitney Bowie’s bump during her maternity shoot.

As if we needed further proof that dogs are man’s best friend?!
