I’ve been invited to a baby shower, but I have no idea what gift to buy. What do you suggest?

Deciding what to buy for a mum to be can be tricky. It depends on whether it’s a first or subsequent child, whether the parents know the gender, and what you can afford, along with a whole lot of other considerations. What you buy is ultimately up to you, but here are a few ideas for popular baby shower gifts:

Clothes for the new baby are always a popular choice. If you know the gender of the baby, pink or blue are fine, but if you don’t, try white, yellow or green instead.

A bouncy seat is a must have for a new baby, and if the new parents don’t have one yet, it can be the perfect gift.

A baby monitor is another thoughtful gift for mums and dads to be. Or you could buy a breathing monitor that clips onto baby’s nappy.

Most new parents find that they never seem to have enough bedding for their baby. Buying a set or two of sheets, blankets and pillow cases can be a very thoughtful idea.
Often, new parents won’t think of buying convenience items like baby carriers or slings. So if you’re stumped about what to buy, they can be a great choice.

Toys, books and bath goodies are another popular choice, and since you can never have too many of them, they’re always appreciated. A nappy bag is another good gift idea. Stock it with plenty of small baby items, and it’ll definitely be a hit.

What you choose to buy as a gift for new parents is up to you. Something as simple as several packets of nappies in different sizes can be a great idea, or you could choose something unique, like a painting for the baby’s room. Think outside the box, or stick to common gifts – whatever you bring is sure to be appreciated!
