Chocolate, caramel slice
A delicious combination to enjoy and quite simple to make.
 

Base

165g self-raising flour

50g desiccated coconut (optional)

100g brown sugar

150g melted butter

Topping

400g tin condensed milk

200g leftover chocolate

30g butter, chopped

100g mixed nuts, smashed slightly (optional)

1 tsp vanilla essence

Preheat the oven to 220°C / 425°F / Gas mark 7.

Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper and set aside.

Combine all base ingredients together and mix well, press firmly into the prepared tray.

Bake 10-12 min or until lightly browned.

Remove and set aside to cool.

Combine all of the topping ingredients in a large saucepan

Stir constantly over low to medium heat until smooth and the mixture comes to full a boil.

Reduce heat to a gentle rumble, stirring constantly over a low heat for a further 10 minutes.

Pour the topping over the cooled base and allow to cool fully before cutting into squares.
