For the Apple Filling:
1 kg apples (about 6 medium-sized), peeled, cored, and sliced
100g granulated sugar
30g all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice
60ml water
For the Cobbler Topping:
200g all-purpose flour
50g granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
100g unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
120ml milk
For Serving:
Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (optional)
Preheat your oven to 190°C. Grease a baking dish or casserole dish.
In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and water. Toss until the apples are evenly coated. Transfer the apple mixture to the greased baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt for the cobbler topping.
Add the cold cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Gradually pour in the milk while stirring, until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to over mix.
Drop spoonfuls of the cobbler dough over the apple filling, covering it as much as possible.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 40-45 minutes, or until the cobbler topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling.
Remove the cobbler from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
