Barbie serves as a social benchmark for any era. She holds a pilot’s license, works a doctor, went to outer space, and drives for NASCAR. That doll can do anything!

Just this week Barbie came out in support of LGBTQ people. Mattel announced Barbie’s view on the issue on their official Barbie Style Instagram account.

The famous doll shared a photo to her 1.8M followers of her and the doll version of fashion blogger Aimee Song. Both are wearing adorable little shirts that say ‘Love Wins’ in colourful letters.

The caption reads, “Proud to wear this ‘Love Wins’ shirt with Aimee Song! Did you know that her exclusive t-shirts benefit different causes and non-profits? Such an inspiring initiative and fabulous few days I have spent with Aimee, she’s a doll!”

The t-shirts also come in human sizes, with 50 percent of the profits going to The Trevor Project, an organization that works to prevent LGBTQ youths from committing suicide.

It’s an important time for the LGBTQ movement in general. Just yesterday Australia’s Senate passed its same-sex marriage bill.

Barbie’s support of same-sex marriage shows just how mainstream the marriage equality movement has become.

Barbie fans on Instagram spread the rainbow love with their comments on Instagram.

“I played with Barbie 50 years ago.... so proud to see her now,” said one Insta user.

“I'm so happy and proud of Barbie for doing this! As a kid, my Barbies only dated other lady Barbie Dolls. They rode a beautiful carriage together romantically in princess outfits,” said an LGBTQ Barbie fan.

Another person speculated that this may mean Barbie isn’t just an ally, but LGBTQ herself: “Barbie? More like Bar-bi!”

What do you think of Barbie’s announcement, mums?
