Week 25: steroids, heartburn and prep work

So I had my steroids on Monday and Tuesday and as advised, I enjoyed two sleepless nights. Getting me in practice for what’s in store once the little ones are born, I suppose! I am experiencing really bad heartburn and thank goodness I mentioned it to my consultant because she recommended a prescription-Zantac, which has really helped.

I went back for a scan on Wednesday to see how these identical twins are doing. The consultant said that there is still some resistance of blood flow to the babies and while Baby 3 is normal, the resistance is high on Baby 1 and 2. I am within the limits but near the edge. If I go over the limits then I will have to be admitted to hospital so they can monitor me twice a day and the only thing I can do to help is rest lots.

So that is what I am doing – sleeping in late, seeing friends for lunch then chilling and taking afternoon naps if I feel like it. Let's hope it will help and these babies catch up on their growth. I am now at my parents’ holiday home for a few days to take in some Welsh sun and sea air and spend some time relaxing with my mum! I am sure some of her motherly TLC will help these little babies too.

I have been getting some of the babies’ clothes and bedding washed this week. In case I end up having to go into hospital earlier than planned, I want to get the main bits ready. The 5lb clothes are so tiny and cute – let’s just hope and pray they are big enough for them quickly! I have bought a chest for the nursery for all the bedding and I have a comfy chair and puff ready.

We’ll get the chest of drawers next week so I can get all their clothes laid out. I gave in on the curtains and ordered some from Laura Ashley, which will be ready at the end of July. Then with the delivery of the cot beds, we will be ready for their arrival.
