“You’re not my mother...”

We all know Mother’s Day is just around the corner and if you're anything like me, you've been leaving enough hints around the house about gifts that nobody would dare forget!

However, who these hints are directed at is very different for every mum. Older kids can pick you up something, while smaller ones obviously can’t, so in many cases, the hints are directed at our significant others.

Could you imagine sending your young child down the shops to pick you up a box of chocolates? We’re sure the neighbours would have something to say about it!

Anyway, being a mum of a seven-year-old, I’m obviously in the latter category and have been casually pointing out nice/totally unnecessary items to my other half that I really want to wake up to this Sunday.

However, recently, after telling him where he could pick up a perfect bunch of fresh flowers, he turned to face me and said: “You’re not my mother...”

I’m sure you can only imagine how much I recoiled in horror at this statement! I’m surprised my jaw didn’t break as it hit the ground that hard.

Ok, let’s take the common sense approach here for a minute. I’m not his mother, I know. And he has his own mum to think about, true. I do too. But it’s still my day – yes MY day! The one day of the year (apart from my birthday, of course) where I can truly moan if I don’t get treated.

My little girl will no doubt make me a card that I will cherish forever (it’s true, I have a big soft spot for homemade anythings) and if her daddy doesn't take her to get flowers I know she will lovingly pick some from the garden for me, but he’s talking about taking his mum out for lunch – ahem, what about me...

I'm sure he was only joking, right?!
