When it comes to airport safety and security, we’re happy to let the professionals step in and do their job, but one father has taken issue with the approach taken towards his 10-year-old daughter over the holidays.

Kevin Payne has spoken of his anger and frustration after daughter Vendela was ‘invasively’ frisked in San Diego Airport while travelling home on December 30.

Mr Payne told the Union Tribune that a Capri-Sun in Vendela’s backpack (weighing double the limit for liquids brought through security) set off a false-positive alarm for explosives. Despite his protests, he was advised by a member of security that the 10-year-old would have to be given a pat-down in accordance with strict safety rules.

Vendela then underwent a two-minute frisk, which was captured on video by her angry father who described it as ‘invasive’.

Speaking to the newspaper after the incident, and sharing the footage for all to see, Mr Payne said: “I just kept it as calm, cool and compliant as possible, and she followed suit. Deep down I was absolutely fuming, but I knew letting emotions out was only going to worsen the situation for everybody.”

Check out the video of the incident below, and let us know what you think. Would you share in Mr Payne’s anger, or do you think this was necessary as part of the TSA’s job?
