We’ve been through this time and time again with the likes of Sarah Stage and Chontel Duncan, but it seems the message is not getting through. When will people realise that it’s not okay to comment on a pregnant woman’s body?
This is what Australian health and fitness blogger Daegen Coyne was left wondering recently, when followers began messaging her to say her baby bump was too small.
Taking to Instagram to address the criticism, Daegen – who is 31 weeks pregnant – said: “I have had pregnant friends called out for being ‘too big’, others for being ‘far too muscly’ and myself, ‘you’re way too small’. Given [how] I am yet to see one lady carry their pregnancy shape and size the same as another, I believe it’s safe to assume, peeps, that there is no ‘one size fits all’”.
As Daegen points out, we all have enough to be worrying about during our pregnancies, so why should we have to spend time dwelling on the shape and size of our bumps?
Commenting on the ‘expected’ size of a baby bump, Daegen added: “I don’t think anyone even knows what this size is.”
Daegen’s message is an important one which reminds us of the need to be kinder and more compassionate to one another – especially when we are expecting.
