Is it safe to go to the chiropractor during pregnancy?

It’s safe and beneficial to visit a chiropractor during your pregnancy. All chiropractors are trained to treat pregnant women, but you may want to find one who specializes in prenatal or perinatal care. Most chiropractors use massage or other hands on techniques to relax muscles before an adjustment so the procedure is as comfortable as possible.

Regular adjustments while pregnant will help to relieve the added stress on your spine that is associated with the weight gain of pregnancy. Chiropractic adjustments can also prevent sciatica, which is the inflammation of the sciatic nerve that runs from your lower back down through your legs, to your feet. Adjustments are also important in maintaining pelvic balance.  As your stomach grows and your posture changes, your pelvic balance is often thrown off balance.

Regular chiropractic adjustments also help control nausea, have been linked to reducing the amount of time some women spend in labour and have the added bonus of making you feel better during your pregnancy.
