It can be difficult to determine what is predictable and unpredictable when it comes to your baby’s movements. Some babies are simply more active than others. If you are in your second trimester, or the early parts of your third, your baby is moving even though you aren’t feeling every twist and kick. So, how can you figure out what is normal for your baby’s movement?
Well, first you have to monitor and record your baby’s movements in order to find out what is normal movement. The way to do this is to lie down on your side for an hour and count how many times you feel your baby move within that hour. At least 10 times is a good number. However, your baby may be less active, sleepy during your testing, or otherwise engaged. Do this test for several days in a row. This will give you a gauge for finding out what is predictable for your child.
Once you have sorting out your baby’s patterns, then you will be more likely to notice and understand when your child is moving unpredictably. If you feel your baby’s movements have decreased or slowed, then it is time to call your doctor.
