Trying to keep our little ones happy and at peace when out on a lunch date can prove tricky at the best of times, so a little empathy can go a long way when things aren’t quite working out for us.

This is something that Washington mum Lauren Copp Nordberg can certainly appreciate, after a recent day out at a restaurant with her six-year-old son Elliot.

Elliot has Asperger’s syndrome, and he grew very upset after sitting down at the table and realising that he left something important at home.

Recalling the ensuing drama in a Facebook post, 35-year-old Lauren wrote: “After several minutes of stares, I took him outside until our food came so he could have his moments without me getting all the stares. Thankfully he calmed down when he saw food, ate the food, then amped right back up again.”

Lauren was in for a very pleasant surprise, however, when she asked restaurant owner Cyndi Moore for the bill – not only did she learn that a kind diner had paid for her meal, but she also received a touching note from the mystery patron.

The note read: “Have a great day! You are doing a great job! God bless, from a mother who knows.”

As you can imagine, the incident put a whole new shine on Lauren’s and Elliot’s day. A little kindness really does go a long way.
