As a parent, you want your children to see and experience all of the amazing things that the world has to offer, and that is exactly what Steve and Christine Myers have planned for their daughter Lizzy.

What makes the Myers’ story different, is that they are running against the clock. Little Lizzy, who is five years old, has a rare genetic condition known as Usher Syndrome type II, which is causing her to lose her hearing and her sight.

While Lizzy has worn a hearing aid ever since her diagnosis last year, medics expect her to lose her vision in about five to seven years.

With such little time to show the wonders of the world to their daughter, the Myers family has created a ‘visual bucket list’ of all the things they want Lizzy to see and experience while her sight is at its best. As experts expect Lizzy’s night vision to go first, the Myers family has placed a particular emphasis on showing their daughter the beauty of the sky, and recently a very exclusive invitation was extended her way.

After hearing about Lizzy’s ‘visual bucket list’, the folk at a local astronomy club invited her and her best friend, Addison, to look at the moon through their high-tech equipment. Meanwhile, the family is planning trips to Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon, and to see the Northern Lights.

The family is sharing Lizzy’s story in the hope that it will inspire others. Check out the touching footage of Lizzy’s trip to the Warren Rupp Observatory, below.
