Christmas Spiced Chocolate Cake

Deliciously spiced chocolate cake which is a perfect addition to any Christmas spread.
150g chopped dark chocolate
150g butter
6 eggs
250g granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
100g ground almonds
1 pinch of ground cloves
Zest of 1 clementine
2 tsp instant espresso powder
Topping
Juice of 1 clementine
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp caster sugar
¼ tsp ground cinnamon
50g flaked almonds
Grease and line a 23cm/9 inch springform cake tin
Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas 4.
Melt chocolate and butter together in the microwave.
In another bowl, beat the eggs, sugar and vanilla together.
Fold in the ground almonds, cinnamon, cloves, clementine zest and espresso powder.
Pour in the melted chocolate and stir through.
Pour the mixture into the prepared tin and bake for about 40 minutes.
To make the topping, place the clementine juice, butter, sugar, cinnamon and flaked almonds into a small saucepan and melt together gently.
Remove from the heat and allow to cool a little.
Spoon the caramelised almonds on top of the chocolate cake.
