Gnocchi with a tomato sauce

This is a really tasty dish and is perfect for a lazy Saturday lunch.
6 large potatoes, roughly chopped
2 tbsp olive oil
270g plain flour
3 eggs
1 onion, finely chopped
3 tbsp basil leaves
1 clove garlic, crushed
600g tomato passata
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Cook the potatoes in a large pan of boiling water.
Once cooked, mash together with the eggs and flour until it forms into a dough like substance.
Turn onto work surface, knead until smooth and divide into eight chunks. Roll into a sausage shape and cut into 2cm in length.
Heat the oil in a frying pan over a medium heat and cook the onion until soft.
Add the garlic and passata and allow to simmer for 10 minutes.
Bring a large pot of water to the boil, add a tablespoon of olive oil and cook the gnocchi in it.
Once the gnocchi have floated to the top the top, cook for a further minute, drain and return to pot.
Stir in the tomato sauce and add the basil.
