Seven-year-old Jackson Turner, from Northern Ireland, passed away following a three car pile-up on St. Stephen's Day that left seven others injured.

His grandmother, Margaret Saunders, was driving Jackson and his sister, Ally, back to their mum’s house when the accident happened.

Both Margaret and Ally were taken to hospital, and Margaret is said to be in a critical but stable condition. Five other people were also injured, but they are not believed to be life-threatening.

Little Jackson died in his parent’s arms several hours after the tragic accident, and his mum, Lyndsey, has spoken of their final few moments together.

Talking to Belfast Live, Jackson’s mum said: “I said to him, ‘See you later alligator,’ and I told him he’d taken my heart with him but that I’d get it back when I see him again. Then I kissed him and his daddy kissed him and we said goodbye for the last time.”

Just 24 hours previous, he had been opening his Christmas presents with his sister, and now, his mum went on to explain, she has to tell her daughter that Jackson has gone to be with the angels.

“Jackson was the star of our show. He was in the middle of everything, my wee sidekick. I didn’t go anywhere without him and he didn’t go anywhere without me,” she added.

Our thoughts are with the family at this heartbreaking time.
