A bystander has captured the moment that a quick-thinking police officer saved a baby from choking, and the image has quickly made its way around the social media channels.
Officer Donald Venable was the hero of the hour, after he responded to an emergency call reporting on a baby with breathing difficulties in New Mexico.
Once on the scene, Officer Venable performed CPR on the child and saved the tot’s life. The Sunland Park Police Department went on to proudly share an image of its heroic officer with the baby.
“Officer Venable did what he was trained to do and saved the baby! Great job by Officer Venable,” the caption read.
The officer was modest, however, as he responded to reports that the photo had gone viral.
“To everyone saying 'good job today' and thanking me, well thank you, but you don’t have to tell me any of that. I do appreciate it more than you will know, but I know any of my brothers and sisters in blue would have done the same thing. As cliché as it sounds, it’s what we are here for: to protect and serve,” he said.
