What are the best ways to make Christmas special with my five year old?

Holidays can be pretty much all about “me,” especially for a five year old kid. This is because the concept of generosity and sharing may still be hard for them to understand. This means that at the age of five, they are still learning the benefits of being generous and the importance of sharing their blessing with other people.

You may celebrate Christmas with your child by encouraging her to help you decorate your Christmas tree. You may ask her to do simple stuffs such as taking the ornaments out of its storage box or simply counting the candles which will be used to light the menorah. You may also start a family tradition where she can take part in. Take note that five year old kids love stories and it can be a good tradition to read holiday stories while sitting around the Christmas tree with the entire family.

Children aged five still believe in Santa Claus. They may want to have a picture taken with Santa or leave cookies and milk for him on Christmas Eve. Since your child is now learning to distinguish the difference between reality and fantasy, this may be the time for him or her to ask you lots of questions about Santa and his validity. How you answer these questions is up to you. Children do not believe in Santa for very long so it is nice to keep the fantasy alive and play along while the child is young.
