What goes into putting together birth announcements?

We have all gotten a birth announcement before, but it is different when the responsibility falls on you to get them done and sent. How best to put together birth announcements while learning how to function with a newborn?

While you certainly cannot finish the announcements until your baby arrives, you can do a lot of the work beforehand to ease the burden. First you will need to pick out a design. You can make them yourself if you are design savvy, but there are plenty of companies that offer predesigned templates to choose from. Many of the online photo sharing sites have baby announcement templates too. Once you have your design picked out, you can go ahead and stamp and address all the envelopes in preparation.

Birth announcements are not complicated and usually all contain the same information. This includes your baby’s full name, date of birth, weight and height at birth, full name of the parents, and perhaps a place of birth. Sometimes a generic ‘It’s a Boy’ or ‘It’s a Girl’ is part of the design.

There is no definite time limit on when the announcements must be sent out so do not stress overmuch about it. As long as you get them out sometime in the first six months you should be fine. Your loved ones will understand that you have your hands full learning to be a new mummy.
