Most mums know it can be a challenge to get kids to eat the recommended portions of fruit and veg every day. Here are a few tips to make the process a little easier:

Start Right: Give your child a glass of juice or a smoothie with their breakfast and add some chopped fruit to their cereal. That’s two portions of fruit before they’ve properly woken up and a healthy start to the school day.

Snacks: Replace the biscuits and chocolate bars in their lunchboxes with healthier options. Dried fruits such as sultanas or apricots are great alternatives.

Be Prepared: Most children will arrive home from school looking for a snack before dinner. Take a tip from French mums and hand them an open-face sandwich with ham and pear or cream cheese and strawberries on top.

Be Sneaky: A lot of children will automatically refuse to eat vegetables when they see them, so hide them in meals when you can. If you’re making a tomato-based sauce for dinner, blend some vegetables into it until smooth.

Treat them: Have healthy desserts on hand for after dinner. Fruit pies or yoghurt with chopped fruit are tasty and your little ones will gobble them up.
