There will be 300 primary school children going home with a really cool story for their parents today.

European Space Agency astronaut Thomas Pesquet will be video calling with over 300 Irish schoolchildren and 50 teachers later today from the International Space Station.

Thomas is expected to spend 20 minutes chatting with students and teachers in Ireland, Portugal and Romania thanks to the efforts of the European Space Education Resource Office.

Gathering in the Limerick Institute of Technology, two lucky teachers will also get a chance to ask the French astronaut a question.

With students travelling from primary schools in Limerick and Tipperary, excitement is surely building ahead of the call scheduled for 3.45pm today.

Thomas Pesquet was launched to the International Space Station back in November of 2016 and isn’t set to return until May this year.
