40 children were safely removed from a bus this morning after it caught fire on the way to the National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska, Co. Laois this morning. 
 
The bus, which was carrying children from schools around Kenmare, was near Ballyvourney in Co. Cork when the smell of smoke was reported by a child to a teacher. 
 
The teachers and bus driver safely evacuated all pupils off the bus and are being praised by Gardaí for their prompt and calm response to the frightening incident.
 
The fire was brought under control and the children were later put on a replacement bus tand brought them back home to Kenmare.
